Dutch Springs has 2 active Merit Badge Counselors and will be working with Dive Shops and Independent Instructors to offer the badge to the more than 1 million scouts and their parents in our area. Granted the display and computers take up half of the truck, which are needed. The first crew leaves to night, the second at 7 am tomorrow, the third at 1:30 and the last crew leaves at 6:30 pm tomorrow. After many years of going to BTS we have learned that we always leave behind something needed and with 4 departure times, we can bring everything we need. March gives us that excited anxious energy. In March we have Beneath the Sea, our staff meeting and all the little things we need to do in order to open our gates. We dig out all the signs we remove for their protection from the winter, we clean off the platforms, order food and an immense cleaning effort of everything- it's very similar to an intense spring cleaning. With last weekend getting up to 70, we hope that trend continues to warm the water up.<br />We are preparing for <a href="http://www.beneaththesea.org/">Beneath the Sea</a>, with lots of copying and checking our lists.<br />The breakfast cafe has complete new siding and looks amazing. The new sign is up on the Sky Challenge talking about our team building. We are fixing all those little things that need fixing.<br />On the touchy subject of money, the only fee that has increased for 2009 is our season pass price. Admissions, air-fill and food are all the same as they were last year.<br />We are becoming very active on Facebook- if you haven't joined the 275-odd-million users, you just might want to. Putting the finishing touches on projects, meetings that are discussing the upcoming season and making sure everything is in order for the weekend of 4 &amp; 5 in April. This is the last instructor weekend for this winter, which typically marks about a month until Beneath the Sea. We are hard at work making DVD's, making sure our brochures ready and that we have enough waivers for the masses. As we finish our software upgrade for our ticketing and season pass program we are counting the days until Beneath the Sea- we hope to see you there- stop by our booths 401, 403 and 405 (next to Olympus). The media has made us all feel as though we've hit rock bottom, there's no hope and the good times are over; and what's worse is people are buying into it. Unfortunately, that's all people are buying in this economy- media scare tactics. Rather than place more blame and theorize as to what divers may or may not do, I thought, why not ask the masses what their plans are this year? Even though we aren't expecting anyone today, and staff have shifted their days off, the clean-up will take the better part of today. It does however, before it's cleaned up, make DS look amazing especially with the steam/fog rising from the lake. Well, yes and no. Although we don't have people coming in for diving, we still do for team building and for our very popular Dog Sledding Program. We had 31 ten and eleven year old on Sunday for the Dog Sledding Program. Otherwise, Dutch Springs is closed to the diving public, I can't fathom why anyone would even want to dive when the air temp is 15 and the water is more than twice as warm, but still a bone chilling 36 degrees. People always ask, so what do you do? I can tell you we don't go in the water. We are busy analyzing the previous year, sometimes years to see if we can make things better or easier for the next season. Everyday we clear the lake of the annoying seagulls and geese. We do all those little maintenance details that can't be done when we have divers here. Also, as the subject suggests, we edit the brochure and print them up. Just last week we got our 40K brochures and are starting to send them out to about 250 dive shops throughout the Northeast. Today is a balmy 15 degrees, sunny and as I wrap this up I hear the goose cannon going off and thousands of Canadian Geese taking flight elsewhere. Here's hoping for an unseasonably warm April and opening weekend. Don't forget our last instructor weekend: 21-22 February 2009, there will be details shortly. No turning back now. We have decided to leave our admission prices and <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">air fill</span> prices the same as last year, only slightly increasing our season pass prices. As for changes in the new diving season, none have surfaced, except the arrival of another Scott. Kevin Andrew Scott arrived to the world on 17 January 2009 at around 8 in the morning, just over 6 pounds and a week early. I'm sure Andrea and Kevin didn't mind the early arrival. All are doing well and I'm sure Drew (as he will be going by) can't wait to get his first feel of the lake this summer. Our next and last instructor weekend will be 21 &amp; 22 Feb 2009, please check back for the temperature (which will be cold) and the visibility (which will be amazing) the week prior to that weekend. We are starting to think about Beneath the Sea. Our brochure is off to the printer and we're awaiting its return. The Breakfast Cafe is getting a face-lift, new siding similar to the front office. Another "new" thing is next to air fill and the garage. It is a fenced in area able to be secured for those summer nights when there are a sea of tanks. I'm sure there will be more changes as the season draws closer and I will keep you posted.
